Day Two Predictions

Wednesday's order of play:

Li vs Errani: Li has never lost to the Italian and comes into this tournament feeling very positive about her game and form. The extent of Errani's injury from her opening match remains unclear and as of writing this there is yet no news that she had withdrew from the singles. If she is healthy though and can play like she did today, she stands a fighting chance but Li is a power house and I'm confident that if Errani is anywhere below her best, she will be handily beaten.

Azarenka vs Jankovic: If there match earlier this year in Cincinnati (www.2013wtacincinnati.blogspot.com) is anything to go by, this match has three sets written all over it! Azarenka might have beaten Errani but I couldn't help feel she was very fortunate and she certainly made very hard work of it. Jankovic is full of confidence after her recent run to the Beijing final and will delight in making her first appearance here since 2010. Azarenka will no doubt start slowly and may lose the first set as Jankovic will enjoy this slow court. However, if as she did today she begins to find her range, she should win and practically guarantee her place in the semis.

Williams vs Radwanska: This is the first match between two players who have already played and obviously Radwanska needs to win this or at least extend it to three sets if she's to really hope to reach the semis. Sadly though, Williams was sublime against a very similar player in Kerber and I fear will trounce Radwanska as she did in the semis last year on this court. Radwanska doesn't have the fire power to dominate Williams and as she found against Kvitova, breaking serve will be nigh on impossible!
