Day One Predictions

Tuesday's order of play:

Azarenka vs Errani: Azarenka hasn't been playing well lately, losing her last 3 matches and struggling with her health. Errani has found dealing with the pressure of being a top player difficult and has also not played well in recent months. Azarenka, as the much more  powerful player should dominate though, particularly on return and should win in straight sets.

Williams vs Kerber: Williams is on a 13 match win streak and has only lost 4 matches all year, so comes into her title defence brimming with self belief (as if we ever doubted it). However, Kerber feels she has nothing to lose having qualified as the 8th player due to Sharapova's withdrawal and comes in here fresh off her title in Linz. Williams will have to battle through plenty of tough rallies but, as she did in her opening match last year I think she will beat Kerber in straight sets.

Radwanska vs Kvitova: Both these players have won titles recently in Asia and have had success here. A year ago, Radwanska got her only ever win over the Czech right here in her first round robin match, but Kvitova was hampered by a virus (www.wtachampionship.blogspot.com). I feel that providing Kvitova has recovered after her tiring Asian swing that unlike 2012, Kvitova will win but it may be in three sets.
